Let’s talk about The Row. So, the Olsens won the CFDA award this past year, and though I have some reservations about them, it is undeniable that this brand of theirs shows promise and consistently grows and becomes more compelling with each season.
Resort 2013 (with the exception of those silly Balenciaga knock-off looking head accoutrements) was pretty flawless. Opening in black and white with excellent outerwear options (that park looks delicious!) they paired trousers with boxy cut blouses, but then softly embellished said blouses with wonderful beading to up the femininity. The silhouette was restrained, not sharp but certainly geometric.
Most interesting to me was the color palette; in the past I’ve not thought of these designers (I refer to the design team behind the brand, I can’t possibly imagine that MK and Ashley actually do this all) as colorists. This season however proved otherwise. They made extremely sophisticated color choices in the African Violet purple used to cut some of the drapey silk pieces, the pale warm Lilac that was shown in trousers and jackets, and the Squash and Pumpkin colors that closed the presentation. In fact, one of my favorite looks was the squash colored cropped blouse paired with a white skirt that ended just at the ankle for a sort of Audrey Hepburn meets Comme des Garcons vibe. -RS (Images via Vogue.com)
Interesting, worth the lurking. Lovely utilation of body shape that softly exaggerates defining anatomy..
Bottom row, two looks on the right… favorites.
