On the opposite side of the bandage-dress spectrum we have Balenciaga Pre-Fall 2012.
I’m not quite sure what Ghesquière is trying to do here what with the quirky, sort of unattractive color palette and the large, boxy shapes. I suppose I could see how certain pieces or elements might be good for styling with other items in one’s wardrobe, but the thought of trying to go for this entire look just seems like a bad idea. The black leather skirt with the folded waistband detail is nice though, but doesnt quite make up for the horrifying shoes and legwear. -RS (Images via WWD)

Says Francois Henri Pinault, chairman and chief executive of PPR- which owns Gucci and YSL, “Our groups are moving toward fewer logos, more discreet luxury. It’s a question of adapting our ranges very rapidly to [this] new perception of luxury, a luxury which is more subtle, more sophisticated..” - telegraph uk
And not to be left out in the cold, this explains LVMH’s recent investment in dormant Spanish brand, Loewe (pronounced low-ay-vay). Acquired in 1996, LVMH recruited Stuart Vevers in 2007 to design for the 164 year old line. Vevers who previously designed for Louis Vuitton, Bottega Veneta and Mulberry is taking a less-is-more approach as well, making a point of using the same bag shapes, season after season. And it seems to be working.. Celebs Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Lopes have been shot recently carrying their simplistic “Amazona” bag (above).
