Francine Ballard's Rantings of the Accessory-Obsessed.
As Gucci Resort 2013 moved along, the group of white pantsuits caught my eye and I fell deeply in love with the double breasted relaxed jacket paired with slightly flared trousers. The Flora print on white in coats and dresses is sure to pop up in editorials and on red carpets all season long. There were plenty of good separates, super flattering silhouettes, and finally some bright colors that remind one Spring is ahead. While a Barbie pink pantsuit might seem like a stretch to some, trust me when I say I’ve seen the perfect candidates for this look on the streets of Florence and Rome. The final looks- a seafoam dress with jeweled neckline and some fun, casual blue and white striped pieces lightened up the collection. Resort 2013 is shaping up to be one of the best seasons on record (well, ignoring MJ) and Gucci was an A+ presentation. Frida Giannini showed such good clothes in the sense that they were well-designed, wearable, covetable, and still interesting. In fact, I liked so much of it, I find it will take 2 posts to cover!
The collection was tinged with a bit of the 1970’s feel that is customarily injected into the brand’s aesthetic, but unlike some of her previous collections, it wasn’t trop and didnt look like a throwback. The presentation opened with a few looks in black, and quickly moved into a mauve-toned terra cotta color for some wonderful dreamy dresses and yet another leisure suit (this seems to be an unfortunate theme this season across many brands). The Flora pattern emerged engineered onto trousers and dresses in a rather flattering and memorable way. -RS (Images via Vogue.com)
