3. Because you have to know enough about fashion to know what you’re looking for, and not just be spoon-fed a trend.
4. Because it costs a tenth of what the big designers who copy it does.
5. The thrill of the hunt.

And when we say vintage, we mean stuff they have in stock from a long time ago. Being that we’re all about pre-owned luxury at ds.com, we think it’s a genius concept, but are somewhat intrigued by some of the items they chose. For instance, I’m normally not a huge fan of vintage lingerie per se, but the polka dot panties they’re selling come in different sizes so I’m assuming this stuff is all new, and not used. However, if you have $1,010 to spend, the leather trousers (above) are certainly a unique find.

GIRL’S GOT VOICE: KAREN ELSON CAN WORK THE CATWALK AND SING
Charlotte Gainsbourg’s piece in Interview about supermodel turned songstress, Karen Elson piqued my interest, but it wasn’t until I actually heard her voice ala Daily Candy this am that I believed someone who has worked (and worked and worked) in the fashion business for Dolce & Gabbana, Marc Jacobs and YSL to name a few, might actually have real talent as a performer off the runway.
Married to The White Stripes guitarist and lead vocalist, Jack White, Karen lives with her husband and two children in Nashville, Tennessee. And to bring it full circle- she also owns and operates a vintage store there called Venus & Mars where she sells high end rare vintage garments and adornments and cheap and cheerful vintage dresses and jewels. OMG how cool is she? Check out her store- it rocks.

Last week we stopped by Cure Thrift Shop in East Village to say hello to DesignerSocial’s own Bianca Caampued and check out the store’s spring preview. While we were there, we spotted a lot of great pieces including some bold statement jewelry and a beautiful blue vintage Christian Dior skirt suit. Cure Thrift is a great spot for affordable vintage and secondhand finds, and there’s always something new to check out and proceeds go to support the Diabetes Research Institute.
