I have been LUSTING after the White Lakota Seric Fringe Tote. Unfortunately, the white sold out in 5 seconds flat. Oh well, I guess I’ll settle for the Bamboo, or maybe the Black…wasting no time tho…word is, this bag has been snapped up by some uber hot celebs.
Available (exclusively in the US) at designersocial -$675
The New Hermes Toolbox: France’s answer to the happy meal
Priced similarly to the Kelly, it will be available in two sizes and in three fabrications: Swift calfskin, Evergrain calfskin or ultra-soft Niloticus crocodile.
L.A. designer Mike Gonzalez might not be a familiar name, but he soon will be. He’s the Mike behind the successful MIKE & CHRIS line, the one fueling the leather-bomber craze and reviving the hoodie trend. Since then he’s moved onto launching his own eponymous line. Fall 2010 marks the debut of MIKE GONZALEZ.
The premiere collection is surprisingly extensive and rather impressive. The lookbook includes 64 looks and everything from delicate tissue-jersey tops to soft silk-chiffon dresses and edgy outerwear. The collection builds off the street-chic aesthetic seen in his previous work, while incorporating the finer elements of feminine glam. Gonzalez playfully teases silhouettes and detail to create a unique modern elegance.
Standout pieces include the single-sleeved silk chiffon dolman and a sweater coat-dress—-and leather jackets, of course. MIKE GONZALEZ will be in boutiques and department stores next month.

DIRECT TO DESIGNER: CC SKYE, A SNEAK-PEEK AT HER FALL COLLECTION
Ever since LA-based accessories artisan CC Skye launched her namesake collection, she has consistently come up with show-stopping, divine pieces that feel classic and modern at the same time. Her innate sense of glamour and style aesthetic was no doubt influenced by her time spent studying and filming documentaries abroad in Nepal, and CC was a pioneer of the youthful, fashion rock chic look way before it began circulating all the runway front rows. Her lust-worthy wares will instantly upgrade your outfit to rock star status and give you style for dayyyyyyys.
We fell straight away for the stop-you-on-the-street handbags from her Fall 2010 line that are confidently chic and a striking break from the everyday. Here the gifted designer indulges us at Designer Social with a glimpse into her world.
DS: What do you love most about your work?
CC: I love all aspects of creativity in my work. There is a great deal of design related creativity involved in my work of course, but I love that creativity extends into virtually every other aspects of running the business. From branding to handbag construction, predicting new trends, brainstorming press and marketing strategies etc. It’s the variation in the day that keeps you creative.
DS: Something about you that would surprise people?
CC: I’m psychic :)
DS: Favorite luxury in life?
CC: Living on the beach. I’ve lived in Malibu for the past 12 years. It is such a great beach community. Everyone is very laid back and happy to be here. it maintains a small town vibe just 20 minutes from LA!
CC: The one piece that I cannot live without is the ring that my boyfriend bought me in Hong Kong. It’s 3 knuckles of pave diamonds. He picked it out himself when we were in the market one day and it’s my exact edgy taste and bold style. It’s the one thing, I would be pretty bummed to live with out!
DS: Inspiring you right now?
CC: For the Fall ‘10 line we kept the collection consistent with our brand image which is edgy but elegant. We were really focused on wearable day bags in slouchy silhouettes with luxe touches in various python leathers and embossing. We really developed the luxury punk rock heiress look fusing various 1980’s punk rock elements with the sophistication of a more refined woman.
DS: Faves from the Fall Collection?
ONIE MESSENGER. This bag was named after my best friend Onie, short for onelia, because she embodies the essence of this bag: sophisticated girl on the go with an edge. The exotic and fashionable python trim and extra pockets make it functional but fabulous – just like her.
TURNER: I love that this handle is luxe and bold and gold, yet does not forsake comfort for good taste as the padded leather shoulder allows for both. This bag has traveled around the world with me and served me well from Malibu to Hong Kong and back again!
OLIVIA: This is the sexiest satchel.. it has a great rope handle for your shoulder and two leather satchel handles that come up from the inside allowing the “slouchy fold over look” or the ‘convertible upright tote.”
Of course, all three styles will be available on DS come Fall!

SNEAK PREVIEW: FALL 2010
Retailers at Paris Market last week were rumored to have been quite disappointed to see more of the same for Fall, with the top themes trending towards “rocker” and “military”- both safe plays for designers who are still, for the most part gun-shy from the past few seasons.
But we saw tons of emerging (and some continuing) trends in New York the week before. Here, a smattering of the most prevalent: tassels galore, fringe (continuing), different exotic skins (both real and faux), zippers, mesh, military, cross-body and chain bags, the poupette, the bucket bag and maybe even a little plaid!

D2D: Direct to Designer Rebecca Minkoff Fall 2010, Paris Je t’aime
Despite the horrid weather, Rebecca Minkoff said the show must go on, and oh it was definitely on. Inspired by fashionable Parisiennes, Rebecca does it again with this très chic and trèswearable collection of apparel and handbags. Pleated skirts over tights, moto-jackets in softer fabrics, sweet dresses under trenches and oversized blazers.
These models looked like they were stylish girls hanging out downtown who just walked into the show and onto that platform… of course with their zippered, studded, and tasseled handbags in amazing textures and colors. We LOVE that.
But we don’t have to keep trying to describe it to you… watch the video and see for yourself, then visit DesignerSocial to shop Rebecca Minkoff handbags.
We are an online showroom and blog featuring our favorite new handbag and accessory designers for the season, as well as a super edited vintage & pre-owned luxury goods marketplace.
