Oscar de la Renta: Resort 2011

We love when established designers who have shaped the history of fashion embrace cultural changes… in this case the land of the internet.  What better time to livestream your resort collection and show support for technological advancement than during internet week!  Oscar de la Renta just seems to get it, as he divulges his awe in the many ways to reach consumers with technology.  ”Why wait?” he says,” … there is an excitement in seeing something as it happens.”

The livestreaming of the show may be very 2010, but the collection itself evoked an “old school” French look.  We couldn’t help but think about actresses of the past such as Grace Kelly or Audrey Hepburn donning the beautiful dresses and separates.  Soft flowy skirts, ruffles, and light fabrics graced the runway, as wide belts created 50’s hour glass silhouettes.  Cropped knit cardigans, boucle jackets, and crochet cover ups were perfect layering pieces.  The navy hues and occasional stripes, with the canotier hats, really tied the French theme together.  And then there are of course the classic Oscar de la Renta gowns, with their fitted tops and billowy skirts.

If you missed the original livestream, don’t fret… it looks like they’re replaying it for the rest of the day.  An added bonus- 10 online shoppers have the chance to win a signed sketch from the collection!

PRETTY GIRLS, Boring Clothes
Add Chloe to the ever-expanding list of designers trying to appeal to a broader fan base via online streaming video. Not long after yesterday’s FW 2010-11 runway show, Chloe sent out a link to their subscribers to see it first-hand on their site.
Fair warning.. it’s not a short clip (it’s the entire show). And Hannah MacGibbon gives us a menswear inspired collection more reminiscent of Woody Allen’s Annie Hall than the ‘boyfriend jeans’ and ‘boyfriend shirts’ that we’ve been seeing as of late. The sea of boxy grays and browns requires a true visionary to style the pieces with the right accessories in order to make them street ready.
But we’re posting the link to let you decide for yourself…
